First Principles

SBOH believes that by facilitating small business enterprise through public policy, we, as a society, will unleash talents, creativities and abilities of the individual. By empowering small business enterprise, we benefit society at large. The following are principles of SBOH.

LESS GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN EMPLOYMENT/LABOR MATTERS

In this new small business oriented economy, dominated by highly educated, technical and transient workforce, small businesses compete against each other for these talented individuals. The employer/employee model is no longer relevant and the lines are becoming blurred. Each individual is an economic entity of him/herself. Commercial and business opportunities are readily available for the hardworking and the talented. Retaining key individuals is essential for business growth and survival. In this competitive free market environment, SBOH believes Big Government should stay out of the business of dictating employment and labor law policies for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The Big Government policies of the past generation must come under scrutiny of this new entrepreneur-oriented economy.

HEALTHCARE

SBOH believes that healthcare reform must be based in free market solutions based upon competition and innovation. Reform must not mean a 'free handout' or a 'free lunch'. Healthcare must be made more affordable. However, a Big Government program and the waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement associated with it - is not the answer. BUSINESS OWNERS should not be required or taxed by Big Government in order to fund another governmental program. Big Government should not be dictating healthcare requirements to small business owners. This is free market America and we need private enterprise solutions.

LOWER INCOME TAXES AT INDIVIDUAL LEVEL (OWNERS AND CONSUMERS)

SBOH believes in a low, simple and fair tax system. SBOH believes we must lessen the tax burden at the individual level. Most small businesses entities are "flow through" entities for tax purposes - income is passed through and paid at the individual level by the owners. By lessening the tax burden at the individual level, we lessen the tax burden on our entrepreneurs and small business owners to utilize said funds for necessary, productive, profitable and investment purposes. Small businesses, if successful, create "tax paying" jobs. In addition and as an additional benefit, consumers are also freed up to spend more money on goods and services provided by small businesses.

OVERHAUL OF OHIO'S WORKERS COMPENSATION SYSTEM

Small businesses and entrepreneurs in Ohio are victims of a failed worker's compensation system. Injured parties must be protected and rehabilitated. Unfortunately, Ohio's system lacks accountability, abuse is rampant and "injuries" are perpetuated. So called "medical providers", Plaintiff's attorneys and enterprising employees have a vested interest in the status quo. This is all at the expense of the small business and entrepreneur. A single or series of injuries could be the death bell of a small business - a business that employs a number of individuals. SBOH believes the State's monopolistic system must be opened up to the forces of the free market. Private insurance companies must be allowed to compete with the State of Ohio in this area. The net result will be more accountability, better service, and more affordable premium rates for small business. In this small business oriented economy, the current system is a relic of a past generation.

ELIMINATION OF UNEMPLOYMENT TAXES ON SMALL BUSINESSES

SBOH believes the small business and entrepreneurs should be free from an over- burdensome tax system. Instead, small businesses and entrepreneurs should use those monies for necessary, productive, profitable and investment purposes. SBOH believes unemployment taxes paid by small business owners and entrepreneurs should be eliminated altogether. The concept that small businesses and hard working entrepreneurs must pay for individuals 'not doing work' violates the most basic work ethic principles. In the new economy, the workforce is educated and highly technical and employment opportunities are readily available on a short and long term basis, if one so chooses. Government should not be in the business of taxing small businesses and hard working entrepreneurs for individuals who choose not to work.

DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIALIZED BUSINESS LAW COURTS & EXPEDITED PROCESS

The court system is overburdened with criminal and civil cases. The "administration of justice" can take two or three years to bring a matter to trial. In the business and commercial setting, delayed justice is no justice. Matters must be brought to a head quickly when significant commercial dollars are at stake. SBOH believes that trials should not be set out any longer than four months. No continuances should be allowed, except of mutually agreed between parties; this will cut down on attorney fees and business interruptions. The purveyors of illegitimate business activities must be held to account. In addition, SBOH believes that specialized courts should be established for business and commercial matters.

REDUCTION/ELIMINATION OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE TAXES

SBOH believes small business, entrepreneurs and employees should be free from an over- burdensome tax system where monies can be used for necessary, productive, profitable and investment purposes. In this new era of a highly educated and technical workforce, owners, entrepreneurs and employees not the government, should be able to make their own independent decisions regarding retirement. Individuals should be empowered to make decisions on what is best for them, short term and long term.

REPEAL ESTATE TAXES

SBOH believes that hardworking small business owners and entrepreneurs deserveto pass their money on to their loved ones and family without Big Government coming in and taking it. Said wealth has already been taxed once. Unfortunately, Big Government gives monies ("benefits") to people who 'refuse to work'. This violates the most fundamental principles that have made this Country great. SBOH believes the estate tax should be permanently repealed.
