Legislature Initiatives Ohio Mandatory Sick Leave Proposal. The Ohio Healthy Families Act is a proposed new state law that would force employers with 25 or more workers to provide full time employees 7 paid sick days per year. Part-time workers would be entitled to paid leave days on a pro-rated basis depending on the number of hours they work. SBOH is against this Act. Government should not meddling in the affairs of business. The free market and the employee's value to the company will naturally force employer's to offer these types of benefits. Government should not be dictating employment policies. This is another policy that has its roots in FDR 1940's era philosophy. The best protection for Ohio employees - make Ohio a business friendly state. 12-Week Maternity Leave Proposal: Ohio law currently provides that employers should provide a "reasonable time period" for pregnant women taking maternity leave. The Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) wants believes more clarity related to the amount of time. The OCRC filed an Administrative Rule to require employers to provide 12 weeks of maternity leave regardless of the size of the business. SBOH again believes that govenment should not be dictating employment policies. Owners and employers should be making these decisions for their own business, not Big Government.
